Gaming requires sound, it is inevitable. Have you ever tried playing Doom 3 without sound? It's a horrible experience. Most people don't even realize the sound is there, adding to the overall effect of a game until its gone… and speaking from experience, when its gone it just sucks.

The problem with sound in general is that everyone can hear it, and a lot of people don't like to hear the disembowelment of an Imp's torso, or other such gruesome things us gamers have grown to love.
