PRODUCT PICTORIAL AND WALKTHROUGH
Starting with the top of the heatsink we see the attached fan shroud. This custom green fan shroud has an interesting design which should catch some eyes when being viewed inside a windowed case. When viewing the important side of the cooler, you can see that Zalman utilizes five 8mm copper heatpipes that take full advantage of the large heatsink area. Finally tucked away in the corner is the fan's power plug. I like seeing a standard 3 pin connector which I have the option to plug into my motherboard, an external fan controller, or the included FAN MATE 2.
The all copper base is extremely flat, polished, and simply beautiful. As seen above, the base is polished so perfectly, it is technically a copper mirror. Looking closer at the underside of the heatsink, we can see the tightly spaced aluminum fins which will work really well under higher rpm and higher static air pressure. As a general side note I always like to include a disclaimer about the fin density: A higher fin density design is suited best with higher pressure fans and alternatively a lower fin per inch design would be best matched with slower fans and silent operation.
A close up on the heatsink for the VRM and memory chips shows a great amount of detail was put into crafting this specific backplate. It was engineered specifically for the NVidia GTX470/465 so the cut outs are specific to the NVidia GTX470 reference design . The underside of this plate is flat and flush to make good contact with the necessary components.
Now that we have a good overview let's try it on for size and see how it fits.
