VIA M’SERV S2100 MINI HOME SERVER INTRODUCTION

One of the many benefits of technological advancement is that things get smaller. We are now able to enjoy netbooks and nettops, computers that require significantly less space and power than their larger siblings. They have proven to be popular amongst travelers as well as consumers wanting technology with a small footprint. Another product beginning to find its way into homes is the server. Most of us envision servers as huge, loud, and expensive, but servers like that are for datacenters and large corporations. For the home or small business there are quiet, affordable server solutions that provide backup operations and network surveillance, and you have the freedom to run your choice of operating system and configure it however you like.

Today I'll be checking out the M'Serv S2100 Mini Server from VIA. You probably know VIA as a manufacturer of processors and chipsets, and now they've expanded into the home server market. Let's take this little product for a spin and see what it can do. Review continues on page 2 at the bottom of the page.
