SpyEraser is purchased for $29.95 USD via download from www.uniblue.com, and a backup version on CD is also available for an additional fee. There's no difference between the two but for the purposes of this review I received it on a CD.

A free instant spyware scan is available on Uniblue's site to check out the program before buying.

PRODUCT INSTALLATION AND TESTING

Before installation begins, the license key provided by Uniblue must be entered.

The only installation option available is to change the directory where files will be copied, which most users will not need to change.

Within a minute or two of having the program open for the first time, I was prompted to download updated spyware definitions. After confirming the download, it was installed and upon completion of the updates the program was restarted and ready to go.

The main screen of SpyEraser shows basic information of what was performed during the last scan. A summary of the number of infections found and erased is also displayed, along with the date of the latest spyware definitions and a link to update them. A large blue button starts a scan with the default settings, but before scanning we're going to look at the software in more detail.

The Spyware Scan tab provides a more detailed report of spyware found. Four locations are scanned for infected files cookies, registry, memory, and files. If for some reason only certain items need scanning, that is accomplished by simply clearing the check box of unwanted scan locations.
