PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS AND FEATURES

The specifications and features speak for themselves and are exactly what one would expect from a quality power supply from Thermaltake. A massive single +12V rail, 86% efficiency and the ability to deliver 750W at 40C are just flat impressive. Let's take a moment to discuss the 80 PLUS certification. To quote from the website (see it HERE,) 80 Plus is an innovative, electric utility-funded incentive program to integrate more energy-efficient power supplies into desktop computers and servers. Participating utilities and energy efficiency organizations across North America have contributed over $5 million of incentives to help the computer industry transition to 80 PLUS certified power supplies.

As you can see from the above table, to achieve the 80Plus certification, the PSU must demonstrate 80% or better efficiency at 20%, 50% and 80% of the rated capacity. In 2008 Bronze, Silver and Gold categories were added and the corresponding efficiency benchmarks are listed above. 80Plus certified power supplies, when compared to less efficient PSUs, will generally be quieter while producing less heat, have higher quality components and save you a little money on your electric bill. However, the money saved is unlikely to offset the higher cost of an 80Plus unit, as the savings calculator on the 80Plus website shows. Nevertheless, for me, the lower temps, quieter operation and quality components found in 80Plus power supplies make up for the extra cost, in most cases. This TR2 RX 750W offering is rated 80Plus.
