My ol' Daddy used to say, “Good food ain't cheap, and cheap food ain't good.” While this is not universally the case, it's true more often than not. One could also say the same about computer components. Thermaltake has a long history in the PC aftermarket, supplying quality products to enthusiasts at reasonable prices. This is not to say that their stuff is cheap, as low price and high quality rarely go hand-in-hand. With systems becoming more and more power hungry, PSU choice becomes one of the most important decisions a builder will make.
Today's components require plenty of good, clean, stable power and if you're building a high-end, gaming or overclocking rig, your life will be much easier if you get yourself a good quality PSU from the start. Take it from me; a good power unit will avoid many frustrating troubleshooting exercises during and after a fresh build. With quad-core CPUs and multi-GPU graphics solutions becoming available and (more) affordable, the demands on the PSU will be formidable. This time around, we'll be looking at a newer offering from Thermaltake's excellent Toughpower line of power supplies. Thermaltake markets a number of different PSU models and the Toughpowers represent the top-of-the-line. The Cable Management 850W (model W0131 RU) has excellent specifications, modular cable design and NVIDIA's highest SLI certification. Let's see how it performs on the TweakNews test bench.
