THEMALTAKE DR. POWER II ATX POWER SUPPLY TESTER INTRODUCTION

If you are like me, you spend a significant amount of time helping out your friends and family (or friends of friends, friends of family, friends of friends of family etc.,) with their computer problems. I've found that, particularly with older OEM computers that are otherwise functionally adequate, the power supply is often the culprit. OEMs seem to be very good at installing a PSU that will get the machine out past the warranty before giving up the ghost. Consequently, I always carry a spare power supply in my tool kit, but it's cumbersome to carry and doesn't really do any troubleshooting. I've tried a couple of the so-called PSU testers in the past and been less than satisfied with their usability and accuracy. The other day, however, Thermaltake's new Dr. Power II PSU tester showed up at the lab and I'm interested to see if it's any better than the competition. Follow along as I put it through its paces and see if it can find a place in my PC troubleshooting tool kit.
