THERMALTAKE BLACX 5G INTRODUCTION

The last time Tweaknews reviewed a Thermaltake hard drive dock, it was the BlacX Duet . It featured two built-in slots for accessing two SATA drives simultaneously. The BlacX Duet turned out to be a great piece of equipment, but it was limited USB 2.0 speeds for file transfers to a machine without an eSATA port. eSATA is fast, but it's a lot less common to find on a PC than a USB port is.

With USB 3.0 devices rolling out at a rapid pace, there's no better time than now to upgrade. Thermaltake has introduced a new incarnation of the BlacX that includes the USB 3.0 standard, and I'll be taking it for a test run today. Will it continue the tradition of quick and easy access to a hard drive while providing the big boost in speed that USB 3.0 promises? Let's find out.
