There are three different configurations of this NAS available for purchase. The first one is a diskless version – this is the least expensive route, but the end user is responsible for providing hard drives. If you prefer to buy the NAS preconfigured with drives already installed, that option is available too. You can buy the DS210j with two 500GB drives installed or with two 1TB drives installed. Of course, buying a preconfigured system makes the cost go up but that also means initial setup time will be greatly reduced.
2TB drives are also supported, bringing the maximum storage capacity for this unit up to 4TB. Another cool feature is the ability to use 3.5” or 2.5” drives. In order to use 2.5” drives however, a separate adapter must be purchased.
PRODUCT COMPOSITION
Pricing for the diskless DS210j is currently around $230 US. For a two bay NAS with so much functionality that's an excellent price, because remember that what you're getting is basically a small server. Expect to pay around $400 US for a preconfigured model with two 500GB drives installed.
The NAS arrived at the lab packed securely, double boxed with foam surrounding the unit itself. Everything you need to get up and running is provided. This includes a power adapter and cable, Ethernet cable, quick start guide, and setup CD. A detailed manual is also provided on the CD. If you ordered a preconfigured model, the hard drives will already be installed and ready to go.
