Last year I had the opportunity to review the DS2089 two bay NAS from Synology, and after testing it out I was thoroughly impressed with the performance, feature set, and price. I now have the newer DS210j model on my desk to try out and I'm eager to see what it can do. It looks nearly identical to the DS209 but the two units have some differences in internal hardware and cost. While the DS209 is best suited for a small business environment, the DS210j is a more budget-friendly home NAS solution while still providing a feature set that rivals its more robust (and more expensive) siblings. I have to say, pretty much anything a home user could want in a NAS is here – print server, DLNA media server, web server, FTP, iTunes server, download station, and of course all kinds of storage and backup functions. Mac and Linux compatibility is here as well. All of this is just the tip of the iceberg; there are some additional features that we'll check out over the course of this review. Let's begin, shall we?
