PRODUCT COMPOSITION

Diskless DS210+ units are available from online retailers for as low as $430 US with some careful shopping around. The box doesn't have any flashy graphics on it, but it does give a good rundown of some of the features and specs. Most importantly, everything inside the box was well packaged and arrived in perfect condition.

Everything you need to get up and running is provided right out of the box except hard drives. Accessories include a power adapter and cable, Ethernet cable, quick start guide, installation screws, and a setup CD. A detailed PDF manual is also provided on the CD.
PRODUCT PICTORIAL AND WALKTHROUGH

The DS210+ sports an attractive black casing and looks almost identical to other models of Synology units I've reviewed. That's a good thing because it's a simple, functional layout that works well. Let's take a closer look.

Various indicator lights decorate the front of the unit. The “status” LED will blink during activity, “LAN” will light up when there's network connectivity, and each hard drive has a respective indicator as well. There's a USB port here for adding an external device and a USB Copy button below it (more on this later). Rounding out this area is an eSATA port and a blue LED power button.
