PRODUCT INSTALLATION AND TESTING

You'll need to have the motherboard out of the case to get this installed as you'll need access to both sides. Since I'll be testing the VertiCool III on an AMD K8 platform, the first order of business is to get the mounting clips installed. Pointing the cooler at a nearby exhaust fan will result in lower case temperatures. Remember, the screws are steel and the base is soft copper. Don't force the screws! Now is a good time to remove any residue left by the warning label with alcohol. The rectangular backing plate has an adhesive pad with a protective sheet over it. It's up to the user, but never remove the sheet, as I've had a bad experience trying to get this adhesive off of the back of a motherboard.

The stock retention bracket will have to be removed. Thermal compound can then be applied in preparation for installation.

Since I stubbornly refused to use the adhesive feature of the backplate, and the screws must be run-in from the back of the mobo, installation of the VertiCool III was somewhat inconvenient. However, the mounting is very secure and I won't punish Spire for my stubbornness.

With the cooler installed, there's plenty of clearance around the socket…
