SOUNDCARD CONNECTIVITY (cont'd)

On the setup tab there is a nice bullet list of buttons to choose what type of speakers you have currently set up on the sound card, so it can push its best performance with its' preprogrammed defaults. Then test using the test button to hear if everything is configured properly.

In the bottom panel of the program, you can modify the sound so it works in the type of room you are in (Living Room, Hallway, Office, etc.) There is also the advanced equalizer on the EQ tab in the middle pane of the program. Whether you are in a studio, a computer room, or in a large room such a livingroom, you can set the reverb for perfect performance and sound reproduction. In most cases, I left it at stock defualts for my gaming and musicv listening.

Once installed and ready to go, the PSC724 Ultimate Edge showed up in the device manager as: PSA2 Ultimate Edge (WDM). There were no conflicts and not a hitch during the entire install or setup.

SOUND QUALITY & PERFORMANCE

This sound card was tested with the Edifier R501 4.1 Surround Sound system and was compared to a 5.1 On-board audio. The sound card was stressed through several games, both that supported the surround sound, as well as ones that did not. No problems, no loss of sound quality, nothing! I then tested it through several DVDS both retail and home-made; the quality was the same: AMAZING! It was the same outcome for any bit rate of MP3 I threw at it. The normalization even made them sound clearly and better than ever. I consider myself picky on sound quality, and I definitely am not against this sound card's capabilities.

While play testing with Doom 3, a game in which sound matters alot, I found only a 1.6 FPS jump. This seems insignificant, but in actuality that makes a big difference in gameS like Doom 3 during hardcore scenes.
