PRODUCT INTRODUCTION

With literally hundreds of CPU coolers on the market, choosing the best heatsink/fan for your application can be a daunting task. The good folks at Thermaltake have come up with yet another cooling solution to add to the mix. The Silent Boost RX series of coolers, a redesign of the Silent Boost heatsink/fan combo introduced a couple of years ago, promises good cooling and silent operation. This time out, we'll be looking at the K8 version with support for AMD socket 939/754 Opteron, Athlon (64 and 64FX) and Sempron processors. A similar cooler for AMD K7 processors is also available.
PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS AND FEATURES
This cooler takes its name from what Thermaltake calls “RX type flow.” “What is this?” you ask. Well, I'm not really sure. I think it has to do with the way the unusual fan design gathers air and blows it down over the heatsink cooling fins. We'll take a closer look at this later.

This chart, from Thermaltake's website, is fairly self-explanatory, however some items stand out. The 92mm fan turning at 2200 RPM puts out almost 40 CFM at a virtually silent 18 dBA is impressive.
Thermaltake lists the RX K8's features as follows:
- All copper heatsink
- Large surface area for maximum heat dissipation
- Powerful and silent fan
- Reversed fan reduces the noise from air-rebounding
- Easy to install 3-point fixed clip
