PRODUCT TESTING
So, let's find out what kind of performance improvement this cooler will offer over a stock P4 cooler.
TESTING SETUP
AOpen AX4SG Max II Motherboard
P4 2.8C
2 120mm intake/exhaust fans
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound
TESTING METHOD
Temperatures were recorded from the onboard thermal probe on the motherboard. AS5 was applied to the heatsink according to the directions available at Arctic Silver's website. The compound was given 3 days (72 hours) to set before any testing was done. The idle temperature was recorded after 15 minutes of inactivity. The load temperature was taken after running CPU Burn-In for 15 minutes.
Ambient case - 29C
Stock fan - Stock Speed
Idle CPU - 35 C
Load CPU - 52 C
Samurai Z - Stock Speed
Idle CPU - 32 C
Load CPU - 35 C
That's a 3C delta in idle and a massive 17C delta in load! Holy smokes! But the OC performance is what we're really looking for, isn't it...
Stock fan - OC to 3.01GHz
Idle CPU - 37C
Load CPU - 56C
Samurai Z - OC to 3.01GHz
Idle CPU - 35C
Load CPU - 39C
Although a lesser change in the idle delta - only 2C this time - the load idle still shows that huge 17C delta over the stock fan. Now that's a load off your processor's back!
