With no side connection panel, you have a rear connection panel that should cover any input needs you will require if the unit is not wall mounted. Wall mounting this TV flat will allow for very restricted to almost no access to the rear USB ports for quick media insertion through the provided USB connections. Now I understand that the HDMI connections are more than likely permanent once installed, but having limited access to the connection which allow for external media hookup is an oversight. Some sort of USB slot should be added to the outer frame to fix this issue and allow access.
The upper portion of the rear connection panel houses 4 HDMI 1.3a, two USB, an optical out, and a headphone connection port. This is every connection port most users will ever take advantage of.
The lower connection panel consists of one set of component video/audio connection which doubles as a standard composite connection as well. In addition you have a connection for your PC, a standard antenna and a connection for the ethernet. Overall I can't see anyone needing any additional features.
Further investigating the rear of the unit you can see Samsung went to great efforts to keep everything as flat as possible. Within the back are the two 15 watt down-firing speakers w/ subwoofer, ample ventilation along with the four points for wall mounting. Other than that, the back is as simple as the front. But again I have to state, the construction quality is reinforced and very rigid and just because it is thin doesn't mean that is flimsy.
