With each review of a Plasma TV, I am assured that even though it is "technically" the older technology, it still seems to be the best. With deep black levels, a 600Hz refresh rate for smooth playback, vibrant colors and no problems with viewing a movie from any angle, you really wonder why you would be considering any other option. But the problems associated with older first generation plasmas still burden the technology even today. The first question I get asked when I talk about plasma technology is still "what about screen burn in?". This has been solved several years ago and isn't an issue today under most viewing environments. The second issue was power consumption. Plasma TVs were known to love gobbling up power at an alarming rate. This again is something that has been dealt with recently and I am seeing almost a 50% cut in power consumption over last year's models. It seems that the problems are thankfully being solved rather quickly as plasma TVs again surge back into popularity.
The Samsung PN58C800 being reviewed today is Samsung's premiere line of Plasma TV they currently have on the market. If you have around US$2500-$3000 burning a hole in your wallet for a purchase that will last you for several years and you don't want to cut any corners, this might be an option you want to consider. Samsung has included pretty well every option they have in the Plasma lineup into one rather large TV that should have no flaws or important missing features.
Let's check it out.....
