PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS & FEATURES
Although initially when released early this summer, this model was fetching a price somewhere in the US$800-$900 range from your local retailer. Luckily, as you will see at the bottom of the page, prices have almost dropped by a half.
Once opened, the paperwork is comprised of a full user's manual, and a quick setup guide. Both are very useful for your initial setup and for quick reference when you want more information on a current feature.
Also included is a composite audio/video cable, a full universal remote control and a package of AAA remote batteries.
Now this is the spot in the review where I get REALLY ticked off at Samsung. Do you notice anything missing here? That's right, no HDMI cable is included with this package. I checked the manual just to be sure maybe it was just missing from this review sample, but indeed, it doesn't come included. I pose this one simple question. Why would you sell a 1080P Blu-ray player intended for HD viewing, and only include a crappy composite video cable. Seriously, who was the person in product development that was so cheap to leave this critical component out of the hardware package. Whoever he/she is, they should be fired, period. This is along the same line as buying a Ferrari and seeing that the stock tires are off of a golf cart. It is just as ridiculous. I know for a fact that the BD-P1000 came with the cable and thus, I was able to directly hook the player up within minutes. With this omission, Samsung is going to be forcing "incredibly pissed off" customers to go back to the store for a cable that should have been included in the first place. In fact, I can guarantee you that a lot of then will be returning it for another manufacturer's Blu-ray player with cable. I know I would.
For this kind of money, this is inexcusable.
And out of the box last is the player itself. Samsung chose to adopt an all black glossy finish which is popular in today's home electronics industry. Although it does look nice, it is a fingerprint magnet. Luckily you won't be cleaning this very often seeing it will be tucked away behind the glass door of your home entertainment stack.
