SAMSUNG BD-P1000 BLU-RAY DISC PLAYER INTRODUCTION
So you finally saved up some money to buy your dream home theater system. You have your new 1080p large screen television as wide as a livingroom wall, you have your surround sound system that could rival the noise created by god himself, but you are still missing that final piece to the perfect high definition movie viewing puzzle. As you should know, a standard DVD player would just disgrace your new investment seeing the recent evolution of players has kicked it up a notch to the new HD standard.
This is where things can get a little confusing. On one hand you have Sony/Philips with their HD Blu-Ray players and on the other hand you have Toshiba/Hitachi's HD DVD. Although it is slightly dated, the information contained with Engadget's breakdown on the differences between the two media still holds true today. The article can be found HERE and explains it much better than I could do through rambling on in this review. After reading up, you will see that Blu-Ray does hold a slight advantage which even today is developing into a greater market share. A year ago it would have been anyone's guess, but lately Blu-ray has indeed started to pull away. what does this mean? Well, this boils down to it being a safe bet that Blu-ray won't be going away anytime soon and this player is getting to be a safer purchase every day.
The Samsung BD-P1000 being reviewed today is the first Blu-ray player that made its way onto the market in the first quarter of 2007. At that time, this player was selling for the incredible price of US$1000 per unit. With the confusion whether or not to buy a player made for either type of media was a shot in the dark, needless to say this player didn't exactly fly off the shelves initially. Not that it was a fault with the player, but the market just wasn't set for a safe consumer buy. Most people have held back........but they don't need to hold back any longer. This model being reviewed today can be easily found in online retail channels for US$499 which is a far cry from the initial price set back when it was released.
But is it still worth that kind of money? That is what I am about to find out.
