<--SHOP FOR SAMSUNG SC-DC164 DVD CAMCORDER HERE
PRODUCT PICTORIAL & WALKTHROUGH (cont'd)
Now as a funny side story I unpacked this camcorder and knew it needed to be charged. So I attached the battery, plugged the charger into the wall only to sit there with my tongue peeking out of the corner of my mouth trying to find where I attached the charger to the port on the camcorder. So being the pig-headed person I am, I proclaimed to my own ego that I would not look into the manual to find out where to attach the charger. In the end......I lost. Only after checking out the manual did I find the connection panel which is comprised of the power, video and USB connections.
The right side of the camcorder houses the disc assembly along with the adjustable handstrap (which is quit comfortable..). More on the disc assembly farther on in the review.
At the top of the photo you will see the photo button for capturing images on your inserted memory card. There is no internal memory so a separate card is necessary. The rotary dial controls the main power and function selection. Roll the switch to on and the camera will turn on.
Roll the dial a little more and it will toggle between the camera and playback functionality. Below the blue function LED is the record button which as we all know will start and stop your recording.
With our focus changed to the front, you have the front mounted stereo microphone. One thing noted was the lack of any sort of light for darker recording. This is something that can't be removed from a camcorder without being noticed. I know on my existing MiniDV camcorder I have used the light on several occasions. This needs to be reinserting into the next product cycle if Samsung plans on staying in the market which consists of other product from other manufacturerers that have this useful option. If you want a DVD cam with the light then you can always move up one model number to the SC-DC165.
One thing this product does have as a definite advantage is the zoom. With 33x optical and 1200x digital, this product has the zoom power to be quite handy at your child's football game or while on vacation. My existing camcorder has and optical zoom of 18x and I thought it could really record at long distances but this new camcorder leaves it in the dust.
