PRODUCT VISUAL QUALITY TESTING

Two Dimensional Work

It is really hard to convey through scaled down photos just how bright and vibrant the picture is on the 204B. It is by far one of the brightest LCD monitors I have reviewed from Samsung. Don't get me wrong, the other monitors were not dim examples themselves, but the SyncMaster 204B with a claimed contrast ratio of 800:1, seems to be brighter than other monitors I have reviewed with higher capabilities.

With a native resolution of 1600x1200, space for large webpages, CAD drawings and office documents should not be an issue. If you are serious about your work, you just have to go with a 20 inch monitor. It will allow you the spatial freedom to add in extra toolbars etc. without sacrificing your workspace. This will lead to a productivity increase and also a much more comfortable working environment. Squinting for eight hours a day is never a good thing.

Three Dimensional Gaming

It is widely known that most LCD monitors are not a very good option for gaming seeing their respective pixel response latencies just cannot keep up with the framerates produced by most first person shooter and online games. Every time I review a new LCD monitor I hope it won't fail in this department.

And thankfully, this monitor does game like a champ. With a pixel refresh rate of 5ms, this monitor games like a pro as long as your computer is capable of pumping out decent framerates at 1600x1200 resolution. Don't expect to drop this monitors resolution or the visual quality fails exponentially. I tried it at 1280x1024 and it was not a good gaming experience. As I said before, this is not just with this monitor, it is with ALL LCD monitors. Game at there maximum resolution and refresh rate ONLY.

This monitor was so much fun gaming on, that this review suffered a 5 hour delay as I pounded some foes in a good ole' online game of Battlefield 1942 which to this day is still my favorite game and at 1600x1200 resolution, the quality is amazing.
