So I pose a possible future situation for you. You are in the market to finally buy that LCD monitor that you have been wanting to get for some time and now that prices have dropped so much, now is the time to take the visual plunge. As you are faced with the never ending list of monitors from several different manufacturers who are each offering different sizes and features, you have to ask yourself, which one do I chose?
Readers often ask me what size to buy and why. I first ask them what their daily computing is comprised of and how fast their computer is and you will see why I ask this later on in the review. For most people, the practical starting off size is indeed 17 inches seeing nothing more is needed for day to day email, word processing and internet surfing. For the gamer, this should be bumped up to 19 inches as a starting point to take advantage of 1280x1024 gaming and for the enthusiast, 20 inches should be the bare minimum you should be shooting for. Now why should the enthusiast go for a 20 inch, well, this is because of one important reason. You always run monitors at their highest resolution and refresh rate possible for the best picture. Anything less is not exactly sharp or clear. This comes true when gaming as well seeing if you don't game at a monitor's highest native resolution, gaming will be absolutely disgusting. Now seeing most 20 inch monitors have a native resolution of 1600x1200, you better have one fast computer to take advantage of gaming at those higher resolutions.
So keep that in mind if you are thinking of a 20 inch monitor and reading more as this review unfolds. Now if you are not going to game, this monitor will work perfectly, but for you gamers, don't buy this monitor if your system is not up to the resolution, you will be sorry. This doesn't apply to only this monitor, it applies for all 20 inch model regardless of manufacturer or model.
What can TFT LCD Technology do for me?
Below is just a small list of what TFT LCD technology can do for your small business or home environment.
1.) Radiation - TFT LCD technology virtually eliminates radiation which is emitted from normal CRT monitor and can promote a healthier computing environment for your children at home and/or your work environment.
2.) Low Power Consumption - LCD monitors have a power consumption of about half of the equivalent CRT monitors.
3.) Colour - Colours on LCD's are much more vibrant that CRT monitors.
4.) Physical Size - One of the main advantages is the size difference. LCD monitors cover about 30% of the desk area than a standard CRT.
5.) Viewable Area - Now here is the kicker, if you buy a 17" CRT monitor, it's safe to say that you will have an actual viewing area of about ~16". Now, when a TFT LCD is said to be 17", the viewable area IS 17", which is a far more honest approach to marketing.
