EMPLOYEE TURNOVER IN THE TECH INDUSTRY MARKETING DEPARTMENT (25-07-2011)
Although most of us in the hardware industry deal with a lot of marketing representatives, we are often too self-absorbed in getting a product on a certain schedule to realize that we are not the only people they deal with. Through several years in the industry, the marketing person has in my eyes gone from a position that I envied to a place that I can deduce to be a professional hell.

CES 2010 DAY 2 COVERAGE: SAMSUNG, PANASONIC & DIGITAL EXPERIENCE (06-01-2010)
Digital Experience was much like what I experienced at CES Unveiled but being twice as large. Jackie and I hit the floor hard to find out about the new products for 2010 and to acquire and refresh our press relationships with several key companies.

CES 2010 COVERAGE: INTRODUCTION, ASUS & CES UNVEILED (05-01-2010)

ASUS NETBOOK COMPUTING : CRUISING THE WORLD WITH THE ASUS EEE PC 1000HE (23-07-2009)
It's functional, reasonably powerful for most tasks, handles all administrative chores I have thrown at it with ease and all while having a battery life of over 7 hours with normal use. You couldn't have asked for more. The LED backlit screen is bright, the keys are set apart enough to allow for a very easy typing experience even if you have fat fingers like myself, and the trackpad is a pleasure to use.

WHAT MAKES A GREAT GAME : STORY OR GRAPHICS? (11-05-2009)
The most successful franchises to date have been carried over an amazing array of platforms with varying degrees of technical limitation to deliver great stories in which the player wants to become immersed; such franchises that easily come to mind include Silent Hill, Zelda, Super Mario, Final Fantasy, Diablo, and World of Warcraft.

NETBOOK COMPUTING : STAYING PRODUCTIVE WHILE REMAINING AFLOAT IN A RECESSION (06-04-2009)
Now what does someone like me do with such a tiny laptop? Well, I bring it everywhere I go! It's easy to do so, being the size of a hardcover novel. I'm constantly working on documents, whether resumes or more recreational writing, and this little guy is a great way to get those documents done. When it comes to writing on a computer, I believe that the human/machine interface should be as transparent as possible; this netbook facilitates that transparency easily.

ECONOMIC RECESSION : REBIRTH OF THE SMART COMPUTER CONSUMER (25-03-2009)
Consumers are no longer replacing their computer every 2-3 years seeing the one they bought in 2002 after a format and OS reinstall is still perfectly fast and they are only out the cost of paying a tech to return their computer back to factory fresh.

BUYING A NEW COMPUTER TODAY: FORCE FED TECHNOLOGY THAT THE AVERAGE CONSUMER DOESN'T NEED (13-05-2008)
To help me convince you that this is also true for the computer hardware industry, tell me if you have heard of anyone saying, “Man I just bought this computer 6 months ago and it is now obsolete!”. But who dictates that a computer is obsolete? Just because Rev.B of your motherboard came out, or the latest processor is 200Mhz faster than yours doesn't mean your computer is obsolete. If it accomplishes the tasks you need, it is only obsolete when it won't do a specific task for you, and nothing less.

CES 2007 DAY 4 COVERAGE (11-01-2006)
Day 4 is here and it is the last day of the 2007 CES. Joe and I both admit that our first year covering CES has been a big learning experience. But as with new things, they are always rough and many lessons are learned. Lesson #1, to hell with fashion, I am getting a much more comfortable shoes for next year.

CES 2007 DAY 3 COVERAGE (10-01-2006)
Although we were tired and our feet still sore from the show floor, we forced ourselves back into the consumer hurricane here at CES 2007 in Las Vegas. Today as you will see was a very productive day with lots of contacts made and a lot of booths visited.

 |
CES 2007 DAY 2 COVERAGE (09-01-2006)
Day 2 started rather slowly seeing we had to spend the morning writing and arranging the content for Day 1. We tried to write the night of the first day, but we were out until close to 1am and were absolutely tired. As we sat yawning at each other across the work table, we decided that if we wrote anything now it would be absolute garbage and wouldn't represent what we truly accomplished during our introduction to the CES madness.

CES 2007 DAY 1 COVERAGE (08-01-2007)
First and formost, we at Tweaknews love anything to do with the latest technology coming onto the consumer market. CES essentially drops you directly into one of the highest concentrations of consumer technology in the world and some, if not most of the important product launches are done here.

THE COMPUTER INDUSTRY'S WHIPPING BOY: THE LOWLY COMPUTER TECHNICIAN (24-11-2006)
PC support companies build their business on the backs of high school and college graduates, the people who get a job just to get by until something better comes along. These people are called hardware technicians; they bare huge responsibility and work for low pay, often for little better than minimum wage.

ONLINE INTERNET SECURITY: WHEN TO DRAW THE LINE AGAINST INTERNET PARANOIA (25-09-2006)
If you surf and compute normally and safely, you will not have a problem that can't be handled efficiently through a running antivirus (such as a virus email attachment). Running three firewalls is essentially meaningless. Hackers don't care about a user checking their email so building a performance hogging virtual internet barricade is not needed and a waste of system resources and your time.

IS PC GAMING GETTING MORE AND MORE BORING? (30-08-2006)
To quote something I agree with “The stagnation of the game industry is dependant on the point of view of the individual”. A good point, no game can satisfy the entire demographic just the same way as even the best movies are not enjoyed by everyone.
