PRODUCT PICTORIAL AND WALKTHROUGH

Inside we get a view of the eight SATA connectors and also a glimpse of the cooling fans. Eight drives will no doubt generate some heat, so it’s good to have two fans to cool off the inside.

Design of the trays hasn’t changed from the last time I reviewed a QNAP NAS, but that’s not a bad thing. The trays are sturdy and well ventilated. Let’s install some drives and continue with installation.
PRODUCT INSTALLATION AND TESTING

Installing the drives does require a screwdriver, just like on other QNAP units. Four screws on the underside of the tray secure the drive so it can be inserted into the bay. Once the drives are installed, cables can be plugged in and the system powered on.

The first order of business once the system is powered up is to run the QNAP Finder utility. It is located on the included setup CD and will locate the NAS on the network for you.

Almost instantaneously, the NAS was found on my network. At this point you have the choice of proceeding with a setup wizard or canceling out and manually setting everything up. For the sake of simplicity, I'm going to begin the setup wizard.
