PRODUCT INTRODUCTION

Technology moves forward at such a rapid pace that it's difficult to find a household without a computer network these days, much less a business. Corporate networks can quickly expand in size and complexity, creating a growing need for reliable file storage and other services to keep operations running smoothly. Fortunately for an IT manager there is a device that centralizes not only storage but also provides fault tolerance, backup, FTP, and print server functions – a NAS (Network Attached Storage). The advantages of deploying a NAS in a network are many and expand well beyond just storage, and during this review of the Qnap TS-409 Pro we'll take a look at some of them. The TS-409 looks to be a pretty robust product with its 500MHz processor, 256MB RAM, and a Linux-embedded operating system. Sounds good so far, so let's dig a bit deeper and check out the rest.
