CONCLUSIONS & AFTERTHOUGHTS
For those looking for an inexpensive solution, you cannot get much
better than the Creative Infra (PC-DVD) Remote Control. The remote worked
great right out of the box without much tinkering. For those who want
more out of it, programmable functions abound in the Remote Selector
application. Plus, the ability to expand the software bundle via other
open source applications means that you can customize the remote, and
make it do what you want it to do.
The distance was excellent, although as always, IR is limited by line
of sight. The ability to use keyboard emulation and mouse functions
is also a great addition, however a little more speed is needed for
the mouse movement.
All in all, a fantastic remote for us lazy bastids who don't like getting
off the couch. For the price, you simply cannot go wrong. The cons listed
are minimal and do not hinder performance.
Pros:
· Inexpensive
· Small
· Supports many applications and is programmable
· Good distance (remote to receiver)
· Open source software can be used in addition to the bundled software
package for added functionality
Cons:
· Serial instead of USB
· Large receiver which is strictly for this remote
· Mouse movement slow
· Bundled software somewhat limited
