CONCLUSIONS AND AFTERTHOUGHTS

The new Zero case from NZXT has a lot to recommend it. It's a cooling monster without the growls and roars you'd expect from eight case fans. It has a sleek, classic look that doesn't appear to have been inspired by an Anime episode. The Zero will hold plenty of drives and the tool-free features are well designed and executed. The aluminum and plastic construction keep the weight down without sacrificing sturdiness.

It's not without its warts, however. For a full tower chassis the motherboard area is surprisingly cramped, making installation somewhat troublesome. The lack of cable routing room and short fantails don't help in this respect, and a clean, tidy install will require plenty of patience and creativity. This will be more of an issue for power users who frequently swap hardware and spend a lot of time elbow deep in their cases. The finish has great “curb appeal,” but a close examination reveals some unevenness.

The Zero is widely available at online retailers and, at around $140 - $150 US, it ain't cheap. But, it's actually pretty reasonable when you consider what you get with the Zero. All in all, the Zero delivers the goods when it comes to cooling performance and aesthetics. Installation issues are really the only downside to the case.

Pros:

- Excellent cooling!
- Classy looks
- Tool free install
- Aluminum construction
- Eight included case fans
- Windowed door
- Dust management features

Cons:

- Troublesome installation
- Cramped interior (for a full tower)
- Longer PSUs may interfere with top fan
