Through extensive research I narrowed myself to a 10.1" model with a decent keyboard, long battery life, a large hard drive and a proven name brand. What that boiled down to was Asus's 1000HE with its six cell battery and over 7 hours of real-world battery life, it's chicklet style keyboard, 160gig hard drive and still weighs a little over 3lbs. Seeing this was still less than half of the weight of the laptop I previously used on the road, it was still light enough to be a breeze to bring along with me. Sure I could have gone with a lighter 8.9" model which I did try out (900HA), its small keyboard outweighed the 0.3lb difference in weight over the 1000HE.

Did my research pay off? Did I get the product that was right for me? Well, everyone that owns a laptop knows you will find a problem if it exists within the first 5-10 working sessions on a computer. You quickly find out a product's issues and you then get used to them or return the computer for a different model.

As for the 1000HE I purchased, I couldn't be any happier. It's functional, reasonably powerful for most tasks, handles all administrative chores I have thrown at it with ease and all while having a battery life of over 7 hours with normal use. You couldn't have asked for more. The LED backlit screen is bright, the keys are set apart enough to allow for a very easy typing experience even if you have fat fingers like myself, and the trackpad is a pleasure to use.

After two weeks now, this small workhorse has easily replaced my laptop and has all the bigger version's abilities without the size. To most, this is all that is needed and showing benchmarks on hard drive and processor performance has no real bearing to a person requiring a netbook seeing power is not their concern.

Functionality is paramount.
