Subjective Tests
As I am not a recording professional, I do not have a skookum audio studio
set up with an anechoic chamber to filter out unwanted noise. I do however,
have two functioning ears despite what my wife may tell you. I can tell
good sound from bad sound. These speakers make good sound. Heck, for a
$100, I'm surprised they work! I played a movie through them, I played
Nine Inch Nails, I played Diana Krall, and I played Counter-Strike. The
speakers didn't miss a beat. They handled the lows, mids and highs with
aplomb. Please do not take these speakers as the be-all end-all, but for
$100 you really can't go wrong for computer speakers. If you crank these
babies up full volume it will sound like your granny choking on a chicken
bone, but at moderate listening levels these things rock. The bass is
satisfying without being over tuned, as some ported designs tend to lean
towards. What are the cons? Well, there are a couple of things that bug
me about the speakers. I am not sure if they are legitimate beefs, as
they speakers are inexpensive, but here they are. First, the volume control
for the headphone jack in the center channel is on the computer. It is
completely independent of the speakers, but it can be frustrating in game
when the audio starts to get annoying and you want to knock it down a
notch. Second, the elves that hold on the grills didn't like my cookies
and are picketing my monitor.
Conclusion
Well, I must say I was pleasantly surprised with the performance out
of these speakers. I have a set of Logitech 4.1 speakers from before,
and wasn't terribly impressed with them. These new Logitechs will be taking
the place of my venerable Yamaha multimedia speakers, which says a bunch
for the quality. For now, they hold the place of honour on my desk.
