In order to use the Logitech G5, you will need to install the included software. Unfortunately this mouse is not plug-n-play capable. It is best to install the Logitech Desk Manager before connecting your mouse, shut down, and connect the G5. So the software will have everything ready for you as you get back into Windows.
As you enter back into windows, the Logitech Quick Tour will pop up giving some a valuable read about their new purchase. For people like me, you will have it closed out before it invaded your desktop.
The first window upon loading the Desktop Manager, will allow you to adjust your button assignments. A really interesting feature is the ability to adjust your buttons setting to change with each individual program. Although this feature worked nicely with some programs, I really had a problem getting it to work correctly with certain games like Quake 4 and F.E.A.R.
The Second window allows you to change your scrolling speed, pointer speed and acceleration. Since the scroll wheel doesn't “roll” as fluently as most mice. You may want to set your scroll size to be as high as 6 lines, to make it less of a hassle. If it's set any smaller, you might have difficulty viewing long websites without getting angry.
On the third screen is where you can set all of your basic game settings, for when you would like your pointer orientation used when a game is started. After clicking the Advanced Game Setting button, this is where the fun begins
On the Advanced Game Settings window, you have the ability to adjust your mouse resolution to three separate settings, a high, medium, and low sensitivity. The higher the resolution chosen, the less you move your mouse for your crosshairs to travel a great distance on your screen. This gives you the freedom to use a high sensitivity when using say automatic weapons, and low sensitivity when using your favorite sniper rifle by simply clicking the (+) and (–) buttons. After setting the perfect DPI settings, this will be without a doubt your biggest advantage over other players.
