PRODUCT INSTALLATION
Upon inserting the CD-ROM, this splash screen pops up. From here, you have the option of installing KLP, surfing over to the Stardock or Wincustomize websites, or exiting. The application takes a minute or two to install. It is a very small utility, and uses next to no resources once it is running.
PRODUCT FEATURES & WALKTHROUGH
To bring the configuration screen up, either click on the newly created shortcut, or hit WinKey + H. This hotkey is created by default. Seeing as you're going to be working with hotkeys, you may as well get used to them from the get go.
The KLP configuration screen is very user-friendly. The options are well placed and easy to understand. The main window displays the hotkeys which are currently saved. By default, there are 20 or so - most of them related to WinAmp. There are also hotkeys for the calculator, Notepad, My Computer, Control Panel, and a few URLs.
The right side is where you configure your hotkeys. This is where you assign new hotkeys and add actions.
There are several ways of assigning hotkeys, and we'll get into that in a second. This is the window that pops up once you've selected your action, and once you've placed your cursor in the field, you can select which keys you would like to use. You'll notice that there is an option (via checkbox) which requires the WindowKey be pressed in addition to the keys you select. I like this option, as it allows more control over your hotkeys. I find it is easier this way, as I don't confuse my hotkeys with the application's default shortcuts.
As I said, there are several ways to create hotkeys. One of the easiest is to click and drag a shortcut into the KLP configuration window. The application which corresponds to the shortcut will be added to the list of hotkeys, and the popup window will allow you to configure a key combination.
