PRODUCT PICTORIAL AND WALKTHROUGH (cont'd)

Fin design is a bit unusual, with a scalloped effect on the leading edges and a slightly convex shape on the trailing edges. Kingwin touts the fan as having an “NDB” bearing, but supplies no information as to what this means. We'll see how quiet it is in the testing phase of this review.

As we saw previously, the AMD mounting clips come pre-installed on the XT-1264. The Intel socket 1366 (left) and 775 (right) clips mount to the cooler with screws and the push-pin mounting promises easy installation. Some folks like to disparage the push-pin mounting system, but this reviewer has never had any significant issues with the design. One major advantage is that in most cases, the cooler can be installed without removing the board from the chassis.
That about does it for this section, let's get a screwdriver and get the XT installed in the test mule and see how it performs.
PRODUCT INSTALLATION AND TESTING

Our testbed for this review consists of the following hardware:
-
Intel Q6600 Kentsfield Core2Quad CPU
-
Western Digital WD800 hard drive
-
Western Digital WD6400 hard drive
-
Samsung SH-S203N DVD writer
-
Buffalo Firestix DDR2 RAM (2 X 1GB)
-
EVGA 7800 GT graphics card
-
Thermaltake Toughpower 750W PSU
All coolers were tested in the open case pictured above. Keep in mind that temps inside your case will be different, depending on the chassis and airflow.

A Philips screwdriver is the only tool you'll need to install the XT-1264, and it will only be needed to change clips for an Intel platform. If you're working with an AMD board, you're good to go right out of the box.
