KINGSTON SSDNOW V100 128GB SSD INTRODUCTION

During my trip to CES this year, it was apparent that solid state drives are the hot item in PC storage for 2011. They provide several advantages over platter drives including faster read/write speeds, no heat, and improved reliability thanks to the lack of moving parts. SSD's have been popular in the enthusiast community for a few years now, but they've been slow to make their way to the average computer user. One reason is because cost per gigabyte is still higher than traditional hard drives. Another reason is that many computer users are reluctant to upgrade a hard drive for fear of losing documents, pictures, music, and other important files.
Kingston aims to change that with their SSDNow line of solid state drive upgrade kits. Instead of turning the user loose with just a bare drive, they've included drive cloning software and other tools to make the upgrade process less intimidating. They've sent me the 128GB notebook version of this kit to check out, so let's see how fast their SSD is and how easy it can be to make the transition to this increasingly popular technology.
