With the ever-accelerating world of computer components spitting out faster processors, videocards, memory and motherboards at an astounding rate, the consumer has to come to the realization the the computer he/she is building at any given moment will be vaulted over within six or so months. So you have to ask yourself, are you going to take your computer build seriously and future-proof it for longer period, or are you going to tread water with what is the mainstream option at that time. I know, it is a tough choice, save money now, but then have to upgrade the processor later, or do you spend it now and enjoy the speed right from the start and for an extended time in the future. This is what consumers often think about when thinking about building their next computer.
With Intel lately,
the confusing gets even worse when you see a newer, faster, cheaper alternative coming out every six or so months. It makes for one hell of a choice when the chip is released seeing in a short amount of time it will be trumped and its price will be slashed to make way for the new upcoming chip. The QX9770 being reviewed today is Intel's latest Socket 775 Quad-Core which not only boasts the smaller 45nm manufacturing process as the QX9650 (Review: Here), but it also ups the stock core speed by 200Mhz to 3.2Ghz, cranks up the FSB from 1333Mhz to a screaming 1600Mhz, and for good measure slaps on another 4MB of on die cache to keep all cores fed properly.
Seeing the QX9650 itself was an exceptionally fast processor, the QX9770 has all the ingredients to fly by it and become the fastest quad-core on the planet. Let's see how it performs.
