BENCHMARKING
POV-RAY BETA 3.7 v29
As a good overall and very processor intensive benchmark, POV-Ray tests the photo rendering ability of any processor. The beta version being used today allows for multi-core benchmarking.

Basic photo rendering while using the i7-980x did show some improvement over the other i7 and i5 processor. This is more than likely due to a combination of the onboard cache in additional to the four additional cores that were available.
CINEBENCH 10 RENDERING BENCHMARK
Cinebench is an excellent rendering benchmark to see how a processor will manage a set photo rendering task.

Cinebench rendering with the i7-980x has all 12 virtual cores working simultaneously to give you the score above. Yes, this processor is just that much faster when you have a program that can use it properly. Anyone using Adobe CS will see the same thing.
PCMARK 2005 CPU BENCHMARK
PCMark 2005 is an excellent basic benchmark that tests the CPU by putting it through day to day tasks such as file transfer, audio compression etc.

As a legacy test and the lack of taking advantage of all the cores, it still was just as fast during this benchmark than much more expensive processors. There was a slight performance improvement due to the additional onboard cache.
