If you've purchased a laptop during the past few years, chances are there is a 2.5” SATA hard drive installed inside. The new solid state disks making their way into the homes of computer users are also 2.5” in size. Now, what happens if you need to mount one of these 2.5” drives inside a desktop PC or external enclosure? If you need to recover data from a laptop drive it is probably more convenient to work with the drive using a full size desktop PC. By the same token, enthusiasts want to take advantage of the speed increase solid state disks offer by installing them in their gaming rigs. The problem that presents itself with both of these scenarios is that most PC cases aren't built to accommodate such small drives.
Thankfully, Icy Dock has the solution and it's in the form of a 2.5” to 3.5” hard drive converter. It uses a simple design that will allow a 2.5” SATA drive to be used in just about any enclosure or bay that accepts a 3.5” drive. Let's have a closer look, shall we?
