CONCLUSIONS AND AFTERTHOUGHTS

Overall, I'm impressed with this product. For $30 you get a quality enclosure with USB and eSATA connectivity, all the cables needed to get up and running, and a blue LED base for an added touch of bling. The inclusion of data recovery and antivirus software sweetens the deal even further.

With the latest 1.5TB drives supported, this is a great external storage solution for large amounts of files, especially since you have the option of using the eSATA interface. eSATA provides a much faster transfer rate than USB, although the ever-trusty USB is still great to have due to its ease of use and high compatibility. Personally, I feel that USB and eSATA provide the perfect balance of speed and convenience on an enclosure like this.

It was a struggle to come up with anything negative to say about this offering from Eagle Tech, but there is one thing that might turn some potential buyers away. If you are buying an enclosure because you frequently swap out drives, this probably isn't the best choice. I say that because not only does the drive itself require screws to secure it, but the base also must be unscrewed to access the inside. This could prove to be more work than necessary for those who regularly work with a lot of drives.

Pros:

- Compact and sturdy construction
- Silent operation due to passive cooling
- USB and eSATA connectivity
- Cables and trial software included
- Blue LED lit base

Cons:

- Installation is not tool-free
