CONCLUSIONS AND AFTERTHOUGHTS

For an entry level set of speakers, this offering from Eagle Tech is worthy of being on your short list. Sound quality is commendable for a 2.1 setup in the $50 price range, and the speaker enclosures are even made of wood which is something that isn't so common these days. The subwoofer enclosure also includes an LCD which can be fun to look at, even if it doesn't serve much of a functional purpose.

As much as I'm enjoying these speakers, there are a couple things that left me disappointed. First and foremost is the lack of volume controls on the satellite speakers. I strongly prefer to have the subwoofer enclosure on the floor, and as a result I'm forced to use the remote for volume adjustments. It's working out okay so far, it's just not my preferred arrangement.

My second gripe is about the length of the speaker wires – they are too short. Even though I was still able to keep the subwoofer on the floor and the satellites on the desk, I barely had enough wire to do so. If you plan on keeping the subwoofer on a desk however, this won't be an issue. I could also see this being a good set of speakers to use with a video game console in a dorm room or small apartment.

Even though it seems Eagle designed this system so that all of the components would sit on top of a desk (which seems unconventional for a PC setup), I still recommend it to anyone looking for quality sound at a price that is easy on the wallet. Those who are really particular about their sound will probably be left wanting more, but for a more casual crowd, these fit the bill quite well.

Pros:

-
Crisp, clear sound, good for gaming
- Nice looks
- Solid wood enclosures
- Excellent value

Cons:

- No volume controls on satellite speakers
- Short wires
- Midrange drivers and tweeters can be easily damaged due to no covers
