Now one thing that caught my eye is that Corsair's DDR550
specification is based on testing with only one make and model of motherboard
on the market. The Asus P4C800-E is based on the Intel 875P canterwood
chipset and is one of the highest quality canterwoods on the market
at the moment, but not every overclocker wanting to reach these high
memory speeds owns this specific motherboard or even this chipset.
Even through my testing, I wasn't able to hit DDR550 on
an Abit IC7-G (Reviewed HERE)
which was rather surprising since I have valued and been impressed with
this motherboard's overclocking ability. Out of curiosity, I then installed
the PC4400 memory in a DFI LANPARTY PRO875 Rev B Canterwood and it hit
the DDR550 memory mark at a 1:1 ratio without breaking a sweat. This
is interesting, but yet it concerns me that this memory has only tested
on one type and make of motherboard.
I hope some further testing will take place to broaden
the testing range to include different makes, models and even to include
different overclocking chipsets such as the springdale. So, to boil
it down, make sure you read some reviews and see just what motherboards
people and hardware reviewing sites are testing and accomplishing the
DDR550 mark and base your purchasing decisions accordingly.
