PRODUCT PICTORIAL AND WALKTHROUGH

Unlike some of the Bitfenix offerings, the Shinobi has a classic ATX stance, but it does share the “SofTouch” coating that we saw on the Survivor chassis from Bitfenix. This finish has a soft feel, almost like a thin rubber coating, but seems to be very durable at the same time, and is applied to the front and top of the case, with the side panels having a shinier, painted black finish. A gunmetal gray Bitfenix logo is imbedded in the front panel just below the three big bay covers and a narrow band of black mesh runs up both sides of the front and top panels all the way to the rear of the case where a large mesh panel hides fan placements for an optional pair of 120mm or 140mm fans.

I like the fact that Bitfenix has included four USB 2.0 ports on the top of the Shinobi, along with the customary audio ports, power and activity LEDs and power and reset buttons, but there are no USB 3.0 or eSATA ports up here.

Out back, the Shinobi is relatively conventional with a bottom PSU opening, seven expansion bays (with replaceable covers,) a pair of tubing access holes for liquid cooling, and a 120mm exhaust fan. Both side panels are secured with thumbscrews for easy access to the interior. The side panel window is protected by plastic sheeting and…

…features a placement for an optional 120mm fan for enhanced cooling in the expansion card area. The window has an unusual shape and features a smoke tint and is held in place with numerous plastic rivets.

There are filtered intake areas provided for the power supply and an optional 120mm fan on the bottom of the chassis, but access to the filters for service will be a bit troublesome. Four bosses will accept the self-adhesive rubber feet provided in the accessory box and they really need to be installed to provide clearance for the intakes fore and aft.
