I think it's safe to say there's never been a home router that looks quite like the RT-N56U. The slim design and black diamond front panel make it both space saving and eye-catching. You can use the included stand to display it vertically as shown here...

...or let it rest horizontally. Personally, I like the vertical orientation because it gives a better view of the status indicator lights. Let's take a look at those.

From top to bottom we have indicators for USB, 5GHz, 2.4GHz, internet, and power. Notice the absence of LAN link LEDs – instead of on the front, they are found on the LAN ports themselves.

Moving to the side of the unit, we have a small port for the AC adapter at the bottom, with a WAN port and four LAN ports above it (also note the green and orange link/activity LEDs). Rounding out this area is a reset button and two USB ports for external storage and/or printers.
