Let's take a virtual walk around Asus' faster version of Nvidia's Geforce GT240.
First off we start at this videocard's VPU. Asus' use of the 40nm manufactured GT 215 core is stock clocked at 550Mhz core, 1700Mhz shader and 1340Mhz DDR5 memory which is capable of 54.4Mb's memory transfer. This coupled with the VPU's 96 stream processors, 8 ROP and 32 texture filtering units only draw 70 watts during maximum load and has a thermal functional boundary of 105 degrees Celsius.
The spiral type Cooler attached to the GT240 VPU uses a directly cooled design which blows the warmed air out from the center of the card equally in all directions. With the lower heat output, your internal case ventilation should easily handle any warm air exhausted from this videocard and it shouldn't be a significant contributor to your internal case temperatures.
I also wanted to point out that with the spiral design, airflow is is also guided in and around the onboard DDR5 memory surrounding the main VPU. Although the memory on the back side is not cooled directly, having some of the chips directly cooled is better than nothing at all. Whether this will aid or hinder this card's overclocking potential will be seen in the upcoming pages.
The back of the card is completely void of any obstruction to interfere with any sort of upper motherboard components and facilitated an easy install. As you can see, this cooling solution was securely held in place with 4 screws and insures that there won't be anyway that this cooler will be separating away from any of the components it is cooling even during rough handling.
Last but not least in this section is the main connection panel. You have three choices which consist of one DVI, one analog VGA and one HDMI video connection. Although I like the selection, I would still consider two DVI ports to be the standard for today's display technology.
