PRODUCT INTRODUCTION

I like big cases. I’ve always liked big cases. I like big cases because they are easy to work in and you can put a lot of stuff in them. Big cases are, for the most part, relatively easy to keep cool. I find having a big full-tower case sitting on my desk to be somehow comforting. Don’t ask me why, I just do. Big cases, however have their drawbacks. While not an issue for me personally, the LAN party crowd probably prefers something a little more svelte and portable. A big full-tower case would also look a little out of its element in the living room, shoe-horned into the entertainment center next to the TV. Always looking to capitalize on new trends, manufacturers have introduced lighter, smaller cases for media center and LAN party applications. Aspire has recently released a case that fits neatly into this niche and we’ll be taking a look at it in this review.

Aspire has been in the case business for a number of years now and seems to concentrate on what I would call the entry- to mid-level chassis market. They have also produced some very nice, reasonably priced pre-modded cases. As a matter of fact, when I was in the market for a case several years ago, I eventually chose an Aspire X-Dreamer case. It had the features I wanted at a price I wanted to pay and I’ve been very happy with it. At first glance, Aspire’s new X-QPACK portable chassis appears to have a lot of cool features for its relatively modest $90 price tag. Let’s dig a little deeper and see if this little box can impress me as much as its older, bigger brother has.

The top and both sides of the case have large windows installed with plastic rivets. The X-QPACK also ships with a power supply rated at 420 watts. A 120mm blue LED fan is also included.
