PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS AND FEATURES

There are three separate +12V rails here, with ample amperage ratings. As we'll see a bit later, these rails are easily identified to allow the user to achieve optimal power distribution to the various subsystems. The specs are outstanding as you'd expect from a power supply in this category.

Features:

  • NVIDIA™ SLI™-ready certified

  • 80 PLUS® Bronze Certified - 82% or more efficiency at 20%, 50%, and 100% load

  • DC to DC Voltage Regulator Modules ensure supreme system stability

  • 80 mm cooling fan uses Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) for whisper-quiet operation

  • Highest quality Japanese fan and capacitors ensure long-term reliability

  • Dual density PC board layout provides better airflow, reduces electrical noise, and allows heavier components

  • Advanced hybrid cable management improves airflow and reduces clutter

  • Universal Input and Active PFC allow the Signature 650 to operate efficiently on any power grid in the world

  • AQ5 - Antec Quality five-year parts and labor warranty

  • Safety: UL/CUL, TUV, CE, CB, CCC, FCC Class B, C-Tick

  • Industrial grade protection circuitry prevents damage resulting from short circuits (SCP), over voltages (OVP), over power (OPP), over temperature (OTP), and over current (OCP)

  • MTBF: 100K Hours Min At Max. Load 230VAC And 25°C Ambient Conditions

  • Turn-on Delay Time: 500mS max at any condition

  • Hold-up Time: 17ms min.@115Vac/60Hz respect to +5V o/p (95%)

  • Overshoot: Any overshoot at turn on or turn off shall be less than 10% of the normal value.

The Signature Series of power supplies (Antec also makes an 850 watt model) are clearly aimed at the high-end PC enthusiast and marketed as a premium product. As such, the SG-650 should, and does, have some premium features and specs to go along with the premium price. As you can see, Antec doesn't disappoint. Let's take a moment to go over one of the high points that make the Signature a premium PSU.

First of all, let's discuss the 80 PLUS certification. To quote from the website (see it HERE ,) “80 Plus is an innovative, electric utility-funded incentive program to integrate more energy-efficient power supplies into desktop computers and servers. Participating utilities and energy efficiency organizations across North America have contributed over $5 million of incentives to help the computer industry transition to 80 PLUS certified power supplies.”

As you can see from the above table, to achieve the 80Plus certification, the PSU must demonstrate 80% or better efficiency at 20%, 50% and 80% of the rated capacity. In 2008 Bronze, Silver and Gold categories were added and the corresponding efficiency benchmarks are listed above. 80Plus certified power supplies, when compared to less efficient PSUs, will generally be quieter while producing less heat, have higher quality components and save you a little money on your electric bill. However, the money saved is unlikely to offset the higher cost of an 80Plus unit, as the savings calculator on the 80Plus website shows. Nevertheless, for me, the lower temps, quieter operation and quality components make up for the extra cost, in most cases.

PRODUCT COMPOSITION

Antec's Signature PSU comes in a classy presentation carton with a decorative sleeve.

Inside, the customer will be presented with a detailed user's guide and a signed test report confirming the testing procedure and results of each individual unit.

Inside the box, we have the PSU, a heavy-duty wall cord and some black mounting screws. There are also some modular cable sets included, but we'll go over them in more detail later.
