The New AMD: A Processing Powerhouse


On October 25, 2006, AMD and ATI joined forces in a transaction that combines AMD's technology leadership in microprocessors with ATI's strengths in graphics, chipsets and consumer electronics. The result is a processing powerhouse: a new competitor, better equipped to drive growth, innovation and choice for its customers in commercial and mobile computing segments and in rapidly-growing consumer electronics segments.

Headquartered in Sunnyvale, California with centers of excellence around the world, the new company has a combined workforce of approximately 14,900 employees. This transaction breaks new ground for both companies and is expected to provide increased customer benefits in four key areas.

 

PRODUCT INTRODUCTION

With AMD's recent purchase of ATI, the promise of new technology is always something to look forward to. But what also comes about is the fact that changes are always made and one of them was in the multimedia department.

It is official, the king of all videocards has been terminated.

The employees have left, the office closed and the best multimedia videocard on the market will be no more. AMD's focus on only straight videocards in my mind is one of the most ridiculous business decisions ever made in the videocard market. The All-in-Wonder line is an industry leader with not one competitor within a hundred miles. What AMD is aiming to do is market the videocard and the TV separately and this is for one reason.....Corporate Greed.

Yes, they will make more money off of having the consumer purchase the products separately and is another reason why this takeover has left a bitter taste in my mouth and in the mouths of the 1000s of All-in-Wonder users around the globe. AMD for some reason does see that they will be handing a market over to Nvidia who will take advantage of it if they have some business sense.

So this is the last release of an All-in-Wonder videocard. The AIW X1900 is the fastest and last version release to take advantage of and it definitely fit into anyone's new computer without issue. The X1900 core will easily supply enough speed and gaming capability for even the latest games. The one thing is that it is only 256meg which can be seen as a little low for a recent card, but should only show a difference while playing the most graphically intense games available today.

You still get all the toys that make this card an swiss army knife solution for your multimedia needs. With TV, Radio, VIVO and countless other abilities, you will see how this card is an absolute joy to own and use.

As said before, once you are an All-in-Wonder user, you will never go back.....well....unless they can the card altogether. *sigh*
