HIS RADEON HD 5670 VIDEOCARD REVIEW

The HIS Radeon HD5670 is a very capable card for the cheap price of only US$89 at your favorite online retailer. Although it is not a screamer, at almost half the price of a HD5750, for the moderate gamer, it could be considered quite a deal for a videocard sporting such an impressive stock cooling solution.

iXBT Labs Review: Intel DP55WB "Whitesburg" Motherboard

Posted by Nathan @ 12:17 PM (EDT)

The only question Whitesburg may start is, "Why is it based on P55 and not H55?" Blame those who decided on the gradual rollout of the LGA1156 platform. As a result of which, P55 PCH was the only available chipset for the first six months. So, if Intel DP55WB remains one of the cheapest in the market, its life cycle will be long. If similar products based on H55 will be cheaper, then there will be no sense in buying this motherboard.

ASUS Eee PC 1008P Karim Rashid Collection: A Stylish Netbook @ InsideHW

The most basic question we have in mind before testing any new notebook is the expected performance. However, in the case of ASUS Eee PC 1008P Seashell Karim Rashid Collection netbook, the question was entirely different - could it really be as beautiful as we thought it was when we glanced at the pictures? Only a few seconds after the netbook had been unwrapped sufficed for most to agree that they were looking at the best looking netbook ever…

Trust SoundForce USB Powered Portable Speakers @ DragonSteelMods

Posted by Nathan @ 12:14 PM (EDT)

Today I've got a quick review for you of a product that I could only describe as horrible. Our friends over at GearZap have sent me over a pair of portable speakers for review and I'm guessing they're regretting it now. These speakers are USB powered and meant to be used with your laptop or netbook and they sound terrible, just full of static and crackling sounds. With one of my netbooks when I plug them in my netbook turns off! It's not the netbook, I've used other portable speakers and many other devices with it with no issues, it's the speakers themselves that have a problem somewhere. So read on if you want to, but you don't have to as it's not even worth the read!

Asus Radeon EAH 5870 1GB Video Card Review @ ITShootOut.com

Posted by Nathan @ 12:13 PM (EDT)

Aside from cost and availability there is little to differentiate one Radeon 5870 from another. They all use the same Batmobile-inspired cooler; offer almost the same bundle and identical clock speeds. Asus is aiming to change that by offering a feature unique to its own brand of cards - the ability to tweak the GPU voltage without a need for hardware modification. Today we are going to be evaluating the card's overall capabilities and testing to see just how much of an advantage this unique "Voltage Tweak" feature provides when overclocking.

MSI Wind12 U230 Netbook @ TestFreaks

Posted by Nathan @ 12:12 PM (EDT)

Today for review I’ve got the MSI Wind12 U230 netbook, it’s called a netbook but it really isn’t it could really be considered an ultra-portable notebook as it does have an AMD Athlon Neo X2 CPU in it, along with ATI HD 3200 Graphics. It’s much more powerful than the netbooks we’ve become accustomed to, but the price is a little bit more than other netbooks, but not as much as you might expect. In my time with the Wind12 I’ve come to like it quite a bit, it has a nice large keyboard that’s makes typing easy and enjoyable. The dual core CPU does allow you to do many things at once without the system slowing down, as far as graphics, it does do HD content and it has an HDMI port as well, but don’t expect to be playing games on high settings. So continue on to learn more about it and see how it compares to three Atom based netbooks I’ve got on hand..

NZXT Tempest Evo Crafted Series Case @ Pro-Clockers

Posted by Nathan @ 12:11 PM (EDT)

NZXT is owed another thanks. Today they dropped on my doorstep the Tempest EVO. This is a solid black mid tower that gives you a lot of room to grow. I recently reviewed their Hades case and I make a few comparisons between the two. Both cases are from their Crafted Series and are priced similarly, within $10 or so of each other. I’m always excited to see new gear show up, especially cases. I recently picked up a Zalman 10X Extreme cooler and I’ve had a tough time finding a case that will fit it, allowing me to close the side panel. This one looks promising with the smaller lower set side panel fan.

Seagate Barracuda XT 2TB SATA 6G HD Review @ HotHardware.com

Posted by Nathan @ 1:33 PM (EDT)

Although Solid State Drives are all the rage lately, they comprise only a fraction of the overall desktop PC storage market. While SSDs are undeniably fast and enhance the overall user experience, they are also prohibitively expensive for many users and offer relatively low capacities. As such, traditional, spinning hard drives, with their huge capacities and low cost per gigabyte, still make up the lion's share of the market.

One of the more interesting hard drives to hit the scene recently is the Seagate Barracuda XT. Its 2TB capacity, 64MB of cache, and 7200 RPM spindle speed will automatically piqué the interest of many enthusiasts. But couple those features with the drive's support for SATA 6G and the story gets all the more interesting...

I’ve taken a look at a few media players here on TestFreaks and most are fairly decent and honestly they’re all pretty similar at least in the interfaces. The CTP1000 also has a memory card reader and a USB port so you can read directly from memory cards, USB flash drives or USB hard drives so you can expand the storage or quickly view things without transferring them to the main hard drive. Gigabyte HD 5780 (GV-R587UD-1GD) @ Bjorn3D

Posted by Nathan @ 1:30 PM (EDT)

The days of buying a stock reference video card and not having other options is long past and Gigabyte is capitalizing on the aftermarket bonanza. Their Ultra Durable line of GPU's feature a 2oz copper PCB to decrease electrical resistance and decrease operating temperatures. Solid Capacitors to extend the life of the GPU and Tier 1 Samsung or Hynix memory for better overclocking. Combine all that with a great aftermarket fan factory installed and you have a lean mean overclocking machine.

Enter the Gigabyte HD 5870 Ultra Durable (GV-R587UD-GD) ATI Radeon video card and you get all that in a massive graphic powerhouse and it features a nice dual fan inclined cooling solution that is pretty unique. While we love the look of the ATI 5800 series GPU's and their black and red cowling heat is always a concern when purchasing an expensive GPU and the Inclined cooling fans on the Gigabyte HD 5870 might be just what the doctor ordered.

CoolIT Systems ECO A.L.C. CPU Cooler Review @ Tweaktown

Posted by Nathan @ 1:30 PM (EDT)

The people at CoolIT took notice and went back to the drawing board to produce not only a more widely compatible cooling solution, but to try to make this product as affordable as possible. Things like mounting of both the heat exchanger and how to mount the radiator all came into play. Alongside the compatibility there was also efficiency and noise levels that were major factors that needed to be solved before the release of their new product. Just to show where the company stands on the quality of their product, they sent samples around for the media to test. Reports came in about a possible mounting issue and CoolIT recalled them all, redesigned the mounting and resent the retail ready versions for another round of our labs abuse.

MSI 890GXM-G65 AMD Motherboard Review @ OCIA.net

Posted by Nathan @ 4:00 PM (EDT)

Although AMD's latest chipset the 890GX, codename RS880D, is very similar to last year's 785G - RS880, the most striking improvement is the addition of a new southbridge, the SB850. Supporting USB 3.0 and SATA 3.0, the SB850 opens up much needed additional bandwidth for faster external accessories and solid state drives. While many 890GX boards utilize a full size ATX format, MSI's initial offering is the 890GXM-G65, a microATX style. The 890GX offers integrated graphics, using the RV620 graphics core, which supports DirectX 10.1, Shader Model 4.1 and a host of video decoding and acceleration formats. CrossFire is supported but the 16 available lanes must be split into a dual 8X configuration. Hybrid CrossFire is also available, allowing use of a HD5450 discrete video card to be paired with the onboard for up to a 25% improvement in gaming performance.

The Radeon HD 5770 is currently praised as a very good choice in the upper middle class of GPUs, since it provides very good performance in resolutions typical for 20” and 22” monitors at a decent price, which is likely to become the optimal choice for gamers today. We rejoiced to see so many manufacturers coming out with their own models so fast, shunning the referent ATI design in order to create a bit pricier, but faster graphics card to start with, a gain which can be increased even further by overclocking, courtesy of high-quality cooling systems implemented by various manufacturers. We’ve received two very interesting models whose overclock range took us by surprise, both cards sporting great looks and an attractive accompanying bundle…
