In my Mustang I have dual alpine component systems both front and rear s series 61/2's in front and s series 6x8''s in rear including dual 12" Alpine Sseries subs with a Clarion DXZ435 Head Unit with the optional sirius satellite radio installed. Best sounding system Ive ever heard. Now all i need to do is dampin the sound from my exhaust so that i can hear the damn thing...hahaha

Try some Dynamat or some sort of sound dampening material along the floor and in the trunk of the car (this will require lots of time and you will have to take the seats out along with the carpet. It will help with lessening noise from the exhaust and will actually make your stereo louder and clearer.

I got a car system but it's in my room, too young to have a car. My system consist of 2 15inch kicker comp vrs in a 10.05 cu.ft box ported to 35hz. Box was the second one I built to far.

Very nice job man. Have you sealed all the joints on the box yet. Trust me, caulking them will really help keep the air where it needs to be. I have been able to get an extra 4 or 5 dB's out of a stereo by caulking the box.

^I was wondering abou that myself but its hard to tell from the pics and I have never been a big fan of kicker so I don't know their woofers.
Are they really 15's? If so, you need to get a good amp . . . not one of the off brands with 1000watts max or anything but a good name brand (MTX, Precision Audio, PPI, Kicker, Mephis, Rockford . . .) Always go with the RMS voltage and not the max. The max voltage essentially means nothing.

It is also better to overpower your subs rather than to under power them. Under powering them will hurt them more than overpowering them.

Get a car already!!!

Rethpect! Damn thats got to be some nice quality sound. Remember to go by RMS (continuous voltage) only. Max doesn't mean anything.

Yea man they are 15's, compare to the size of the cd and compare a cd to someones 12. I'm only giving them roughly 50watts each, that is the reason why I made a big ported box for them. Also, running less watts can only harm the subs if they start clipping and distorting. Hm... so why did I get 15s if I only have 50 watts to spare to each sub? Because if you had a choice to have some outdated 10inch compvrs or the newest 15inch comp vrs what would you choose? And yes I do need a car man...just waiting till I get my drivers liscense.

haha, I don't think they'll fit in my car man. I'm planning on getting a honda, so I might have to sell these 15s and get some good 12s like some brahmas or RE XXX. Yes, I did put liquid nails to seal up the joints, also one thing I noticed, you can't just put a box somewhere and expect to have alot of bass. Like on the pictures, I had my box facing directly, it was loud but it got louder when it was indirectly, meaning had it facing the wall. Also having the box away from the wall like about 2feet made it louder too, and having it in the corner of my room also played a role to it. Having the box away from the wall and facing the wall makes the sound waves mature and big enough so once it reaches the human ear it will be louder. That's just my theory.

this is ver true. Resonant Frequency of your room (or whatever else you have the speakers in...=P) plays an important role as well.......and since the box is ported, you gotta make sure that box is facing the right direction. AND...since its ported......a lower amount of watts will do it just fine, if that bad boy was SEALED....it would be a different story........

The difference between ported and sealed? In my experience, sealed enclosures require more power, result in much tighter and cleaner bass. Ported boxes don't need as much power and will result in louder fuller bass.

Making a ported box is not as easy as drilling a hole to let the air out. They need to be tuned to a specific frequency. When we did sound competitions, we managed to hit 147db with 2-12inch MA audio subs in a 4cu ft ported box. That was the second of two because the first one flopped. The first one had a few miscalculations and the loudness peaked at the wrong frequency. We only hit 132db with that which was very dissapointing.

I suggest only making a ported box if you know what you are doing otherwise it may be a big waste. Remember that not all subs that are the same size operate the same. Its not a great idea to go out and buy any old ported box either. Make sure it is made specifically for that model.

My 2 12" subs are both the same make, and the sealed box there in was made only for those subs, my friend has two 10" subs in a box not made for them, and eve tho my speakers are bigger, they punch out way more base then his. His dont even rattle his trunk.

How much power are you giving your subs and how much is he giving his? Also, what kind of car do you both have and what kind of subs are they. All those factors make a HUGE difference.

I am personally a fan of ported enclosures, as they tend to have a flatter response curve. And to have a smoother sound. Sealed boxes tend to have a punchier bass but they have one frequency that they are louder at. A ported enclosure can have this as well. But if it is designed properly you can avoid that.

take for example I had two kenwood tens in a ported box that I designed and built for my extended cab s-10. And my friend had two 12" JL audio subs in a sealed box that the design came straight off of JL's web site. His subs were louder but my hit alot lower. So then he asked me to design a box for him. I drew it up and the next week-end we built it. When we got it all installed he almost pissed his pants it was so loud and low. He loved it, but I wasnt that satisfied since it wasnt as low as I wanted to get. Since he had to have the two subs the box frequency was up around 38-42 hz (i cant remember exact numbers anymore as its been a few years). But with one sub in the same area I could have gotten down to 25 hz. But he got what he wanted. And I felt sorry for his neighbors.

sorry for the long winded posted. Please forgive me since I am on allergy meds at the moment.

Pass those meds and I'll swap you some beer hehehe.

Its kinda funny that someone that deals with car audio only for a hobby can build something better than the manufacturer. Its jolly good fun and I would definately try recommending doing most of it yourself after a few tutorials.

As a test I did a little moding to my Velocity (blaupunkt) 8" sub (no port but has a passive wobberler thingey, basically a second sub without a coil) Its only rated at 130W max ( ~75W RMS). 20 mins later after a little tweaking and I managed to hit 142Db @ 100Hz (only 2sec as I did'nt wana blow the sub) not bad really! It thumps quite well for a wee 'un and suits the Mini's small boot space nicely ( 1ft cube), can even still get a lot of stuff in there. It only cost me £40 and retailed for £130 (ex display that was being sold off) so I figured why not!

I once added my HiFi amp (Technics - panasonic) which I rebuilt, into my car system as a test, somebody complained to the environmental health and 2 guys turned up with a meter and declaired my car as "legally requires ear protection" heh, I was was wetting myself with laughter!, I asked if I could have that written down! They were cool about it as I pointed out it was just a test and I'd finished before they came. Test was only about 5 mins, it was a neighbour that we did'nt get on with that complained, everyone else was fine about it.
