I recently have been planning on my overclocking machine. I bought a subzero4g from thermaltake and am ready to OC. Anyway, the current specs of the rig look like this:

Asus P4P800-Deluxe-
Pentium 4 2.6C 800
Leadtek winfast fx5900 (great for oc)

undecided:

memory = Kingston hyperX ddr3500
hd = no clue. I want to get the best outa my motherboard and ive heard SATA is highly over-rated, meaning its not as good as some of the new non-sata drives. And i dont want moster hard drives 80gb+.

So, whats my best option.. im lookin to OC this proc to 3.2-3.6 . This is gonna be a game machine.

thx

parallel ata to SATA adapters are overrated, but SATA drives are much faster than the PATA counterparts... if you want a real performer go for the W.D Raptor 36Gb 10kRPM

to meobius : The wd raptor 36gb 10k rpm will hook up to my mobo just fine?

to icyrus76 : The 2.4 may be able to acheive NEARLY as high speeds as the 2.6, but im figuring that oc'n a 2.6 to 3.4/.5/.6 would run a bit more stable than a 2.4 to that high. Giving a 1000mhz oc compared toa 1200. It may kill the life of the proc. and im not sure if retails can be sent back if u OC them to death.

verto,

Here is my recommendations:

Get the Abit IC7, It's a canterwood which is faster and is a great overclocker.

http://tweaknews.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=787976/search=ic7/ut=42ba437720ea334c

Get the 2.4C, it's cheaper and overclocks better than even the 2.6C. Don't ask, I don't know why.

http://tweaknews.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=780689/search=2.4/ut=42ba437720ea334c

Do not waster your money on ax FX5900. Get a 9800pro or even a 9700pro and you will be father ahead.

ok. There are many IC7's though.. max x's ....

I can get a new retail 2.4c for $172 and a retail 2.6c for $175.. 3 bucks is nothing, would u still go with the 2.4c?

another question.. What memory would u recommend? i am gonna be a gamer for the demanding dx9 games + im gonna oc whichever proc over 3.2ghz.

is dual channel 2x256 better than 1x512?

wow, let me make a correction.

i can get a 2.6c at 176$ and at the same site.. a 2.4c is 186$.... go figure?

i can find the 2.4c for like 173 if i needed to.. but a 3$ difference? thats hardly anything.. 200mhz. help me decide
