This is one of the most useless and time consuming "Features" of XP . Use this key to eliminate the compression step when using Disk Cleanup" and cut the time down considerably when doing the cleanup.Delete the Key

HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\Volumn Caches\Compress Old Files
