been reading some tweak stuff on xp and 1 article mentioned that swapping memory usage from programs to system cache improved performance...which i duly changed. however, once i did that my LAN connection to my d-link broadband router gets disconnected (no ipaddress or data transfers) and also i keep getting error messages saying windows couldnt write to disk due to h/w failure or network h/w failure. my system slows down dramatically as well and i cant even browse folders in explorer due to insufficient system resources.

i flipped the first time it happened since i changed my boot settings in msconfig as well and didnt know wht was causing the problem. but i sorta guessed it was the prog to memory change since it didnt revert back to optimize for programs after rebooting several times which incl windows checking drive c for errors.

finally i managed to fix things by booting into safe mode and switching back to optimizing for programs and everything worked again. i tried this twice just to make sure that was the cause of my LAN not working and its due to it.

does anyone know why tweaking that causes my 3com on board LAN to fail?
ive got a p4p800 dlx with 3com gigabit lan on the mb.

btw ive got 512 mb ram and my paging file size is 765mb as recommended by win.
